Your Desire is Your Destiny
This message is one part of a series of messages that we plan to produce about how we are transformed by the renewing of our minds. The focus will be how we cooperate with our Father in heaven in our transformation process. The truth is that the work was already done on the cross by Jesus the Christ. We are transformed by accepting and believing all the promises that are part of the Gospel, the message of our salvation. In this message we are focusing on “desires” which are things we want, things we long for.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2 NKJV)
When I was about three years old I somehow ran away from my mother while she was distracted with household chores. I went to a busy street that was near our house. When my mother found me I was running back and forth across the street blocking traffic, and laughing. Vehicles were stopped in both directions, several cars and even a big logging truck. I thought at the time that it was great fun and just what I wanted to do. After my mother disciplined me I realized that is not what I really want to do, and I did not do it again. I was too young to understand the danger of what “I wanted”. One reason God gives children parents is to help the children learn to desire good things. Our Father in heaven wants us to desire His good and perfect will for our lives.
God’s word says in (Jeremiah 17:7-10 NKJV) “Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD. (8) For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit. (9) “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? (10) I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings. We can fool ourselves. But when we put our trust in God we can sink our roots deep into the River of Life which gives us a continual source of refreshing. Ephesians 3:17 mentions being rooted and grounded in love; I believe that the River of Life which proceeds from the throne of God is a River of Love. When you begin to satisfy your desires for love from the God of love, He will become your desire.
Our hearts are easily deceived, we can not trust ourselves. We can only fully trust God. We can always trust His will, (His desires) and His ways, (His decisions) to be the best for us. God’s will and His ways are always based on love. Your wants and desires are very important because they point you on a path toward satisfying your desires. Your desire is your destiny. You are always moving toward fulfilling your desires. You view your desire with the eyes of your heart, your imagination. Your thoughts are often connected to your desires. Your desires are taking you closer to God or further away from Him.
If you are trying to satisfy your needs for love, joy, and peace without God then your desires will lead you to destruction. When you have learned to satisfy your needs for love, joy, and peace by experiencing God’s love, joy, and peace then He will become your desire. When you make God your desire you will have an eternal source of True love, joy, and peace. Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ‘For YAH, the LORD, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’ ” Therefore with joy you will draw water From the wells of salvation. (Isaiah 12:2-3 NKJV) Notice that the Word says “wells” of salvation. There is a well of salvation for each thing that you need to be free from.
Old desires will fade away as you realize they are temporary and artificial. God will give you new desires; His desires for your life. The desires you receive from God point you to God’s plan for your life, your true destiny in Him. Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. (Psalms 37:3-5 NKJV) Obeying God has taken me places that I thought I did not want to go, however after I got there I realized God was leading me directly into my deepest heart felt desires. Blessings flow from the fruit of obedience. Through experience you build your faith in trusting and resting in God’s promises.
In the New Covenant Jesus has already done the work on the cross. When we come into agreement with Jesus’ words and believe, we receive. If we believe that Jesus sacrifice saves us from hell and makes heaven our destiny, then we can also believe for all the other promises in the Gospel message. Why should we live in hell on earth when Jesus told us to pray, “Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” The Gospel of the Kingdom is that heaven is as close as your heart and you are to repent so you can experience it now. Repent means to change the way you think. (We will cover this and other related subjects more in following messages.)
You know who your Father is by the desires you have. Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.” (John 8:42-47)
One of the most important desires a person can have is the desire to know Truth, pure Truth. One of Satan’s big lies is that truth is relative; another is that a lie mixed with truth is still truth. Satan has no power over us he can only deceive to keep us from the truth. Truth is a person, Jesus is Truth, if it is not found in Jesus it is not Truth. A heart that fully desires Truth will come to know Jesus. Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31-32 NKJV) If we love Truth we will be protected from deception. The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. (2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 NKJV)
God is looking in people’s hearts to see if they desire Truth or do they reject Truth and choose deception. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, (2 Thessalonians 2:11-13 NKJV).
You have been chosen for salvation because you chose Truth. Sanctification means to be holy and separated unto God. Sanctification is a work of the Holy Spirit as we come into agreement with truth. Jesus says, “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. (John 16:12-14 NKJV)
The church, which is the body of Christ, is in a time of reformation. That means you are being re-formed. [Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight. (Philippians 2:13 AMP)
You may have heard that 2011 is a breakthrough year for the church, the body of Christ. We believe it. About one month ago we began to experience revival in our Kingdom Celebration program in The Philippines. We minister mostly to kids, youth, and young adults. Most all of the kids and youth are having supernatural experiences with God. This is causing them to love God like they never have before. Kids come to our house not to play but rather wanting to worship God so they can have a special encounter with Him. Kids are laying hands on one another and praying for each other. The testimonies from the kids are amazing. I am seeing one of my desires fulfilled. Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life. (Proverbs 13:12 NKJV)
When we first came to The Philippines it was by faith that the Lord had directed us to where He wanted us to be. Sometimes we questioned if we were in the right place. However, we have seen God do so much that we no longer question why God led us here. The first time the Lord spoke to my heart that your desire is your destiny was one time when I was watching our 10 year old son playing the guitar and worshiping in a Sunday service. The Lord reminded me of our prayers for him before he was born. We prayed that he would be a worshipper, that he would be used by God at an early age, that he would be gifted in music, that he would have favor with God and man, that he would be verbally gifted. All of these things are part of his life now. He is now 11 and leading worship in our kids worship band. The Lord showed me that when our heart desires are to glorify God then He makes our desires happen. All of our kids are part of the revival and this is also an answer to prayer and a heart desire.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And Your dominion endures throughout all generations. The LORD upholds all who fall, And raises up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look expectantly to You, And You give them their food in due season. You open Your hand And satisfy the desire of every living thing. The LORD is righteous in all His ways, Gracious in all His works. The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them. The LORD preserves all who love Him, But all the wicked He will destroy.
(Psalms 145:13-20 NKJV)
Today make the Lord your desire because you are His desire.
I have grabbed it, can’t let go,my destiny
