Word of God In You – Part 2

For even a pagan’s natural instinct will confirm the law to be present in their conscience and though they have never even heard about Jewish laws. Thus they prove to be a law unto themselves. The law is so much more than a mere written code; its presence in human conscience even in the absence of the written instruction is obvious, condemning or commending personal conduct, (Romans 2:14-15 TMB).

The Word in You

There is a fascinating passage in Deuteronomy chapter 30 about the Word in you. After Moses had given the commandments to Israel and the law had been written, the Lord goes on to declare the great blessings they would experience if…

…. if you obey the voice of the LORD your God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which are written in this Book of the Law, and if you turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, (Deu 30:10).

First, God expects you to hear and obey His voice. This makes clear, God is not silent in any person’s life. When you turn to Him with all your heart and soul you will hear His Word. In part one I explained how the Word is Jesus Christ. The Lord tells Israel the Word is not a mystery to you and it is not far away from you.

But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it. “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, in that I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments… (Deu 30:14-16).

There is a lot of profound information here. First, the Word is always near you, in your heart and in your mouth. Near you, because all of creation is held together by the Word, and creation is a witness of Gods ways–creation speaks, (Romans 1). In your heart is your conscience which receives from your Spirit. Out of the abundance of the heart your mouth speaks. Jesus taught that you will be judged by your words. Your mouth is a witness for, or against you. When you say something that is love, you feel good and when you say something bad or lie, you feel that also.

But if your heart turns away and you do not listen and you are led astray to bow down to other gods and worship them, I tell you today that you will certainly perish… (Deut. 30:17-18 HCSB).

The word “perish” means “to wander away and lose oneself, ending in destruction.” When you turn away from the Word and listen to other voices of deception, you become unconscious of the Word in you. The voice of God is life, light and love. His word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it. The power to do God’s word is the Word, Himself.

…I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the LORD your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life… (Deut. 30:19-20 NKJV)

When God says to choose life, He means eternal life. Jesus Christ is the full expression of God the Father in eternal life, light and love. He is not far away from you–He is your very life-essence. Choosing to turn to God and follow His Word is choosing life and love.

Jesus says, “The Spirit is The Life Giver; the body does not benefit anything. The words that I speak with you are Spirit and life.” (John 6:63 FCAB)
