My words are Spirit and they are life. – Jesus (John 6:63)
The “Word of God” refers to the scriptures written in the Holy Bible and that which is revealed through the Holy Spirit. However, the Word of God is also a name for Jesus Christ.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were created through Him, and apart from Him not one thing was created that has been created. Life was in Him, and that life was the light of men. (John 1:1-4 HCSB)
In the Passion Translation John 1:1 translates “Word,” as the Living Expression. In the very beginning the Living Expression was already there. And the Living Expression was with God, yet fully God, (John 1:1 TPT) The Greek term for “Word” in the New Testament is the term “logos.” Below is a quote of the explanation for Logos given in The Passion Translation.
“The Greek is logos, which has a rich and varied background in both Greek philosophy and Judaism. The Greeks equated logos with the highest principle of cosmic order. God’s logos in the Old Testament is His powerful self-expression in creation, revelation, and redemption. In the New Testament we have this new unique view of God given to us by John, which signifies the presence of God himself in the flesh. Some have translated this rich term as “Word.” It could also be translated “Message” or “Blueprint.” Jesus Christ is the eternal Word, the creative Word, and the Word made visible. He is the divine self-expression of all that God is, contains, and reveals in incarnated flesh. Just as we express ourselves in words, God has perfectly expressed himself in Christ.”
In Hebrews 1:3, we read that Jesus is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact representation of His being. It goes on to say that Jesus holds all of creation together by the word of His power.
Throughout the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, God reveals Himself to mankind through Jesus Christ and the Bible ends with book of The Revelation of Jesus Christ. God is revealed to man in a progression of understanding who Jesus is. Jesus is the revelation of who God is, and who you are. The greater your revelation of Jesus Christ, the greater you know God, and the greater you know who you are, (1 John 3:2). Jesus is the Blueprint of who you are. He is the Word inside you and He is your life essence.
In Genesis Chapter 17, the Lord (Jehovah) appeared to Abram, and said to him, “I Am El Shaddai [God Almighty]. God revealed Himself to Moses as Jehovah. God spoke further to Moses and said to him, “I am the LORD; and I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as God Almighty, but by My name, LORD, I did not make Myself known to them, (Exodus 6:2-3 NASB). It seems clear that Jehovah, or the Lord as revealed in the Old Testament, is Jesus Christ in the New Testament. For more about this subject see the Jesus Christ is God article. We also have a list of Bible scriptures which reveal that Jesus Christ is God.
